Power 5 Chord

The power 5 chord is simply the major chord with the 3rd note removed.

It is simply the root note and the 5th note.

Let’s use the C major chord to show this:

Chord Formula:

A chord is made up of notes based on the intervals of the major scale.

The power 5 chord formula is 1-5 (i.e. the Root and 5th notes of the major scale).

You can also play the Power 5 chord formula as:

1-5-1 (i.e. the Root, 5th & Root), the 2nd root note is one octave higher than the 1st root note.
