Suspended 4 Chord

The suspended 4 (sus4) chord is simply the major chord with the 3rd note of the major scale replaced by the 4th note of the major scale.

Let’s use the C major chord to show this:

Chord Formula:

A chord is made up of notes based on the intervals of the major scale.

The sus4 chord formula is 1-4-5 (i.e. the Root, 4th and 5th notes of the major scale).
